Trails, Beaches and Parks
West Coast Parks:
Sooke Potholes -The Sooke potholes is one of the most popular spots in Sooke for swimming,day hikes or picknicing.Enjoy the spectacular views from the high jagged edge of the cliffs or take a bike ride to the 10,000sqft.convention center. Its only a 15min drive from the center of Sooke.
China and Sombrio Beach- China beach is only a 20min drive from Sombrio beach and they are both great beaches for kayaking in the ever changing ocean, picnicking on the beautiful sandy beach or surf the dramatic west coast waves.
Jordan River - The old logging town of Jordan River is perfect for camping on the oceanfront, surfing the waves or just a day hike down the rocky beach. End your day with dinner at The Breakers Restaurant or at Shakie's the real taste of the west coast.
French Beach - French Beach is a Provincial Park located 20 minutes from
Sooke. The sandy beaches and rolling waves are abundent with West coast
sea life.
Botanical
Beach - The unique westcoast oceanside of Botanical Beach boasts some
of the best tidal pools on Vancouver Island. This Provincial Park which
is located in Port Renfrew has some of the most beautiful wildlife around.
The amazing sights of bald eagles, sea hawks, sealions, whales and sea
otters will be sure to make your day trip somthine youull never forget.
East Sooke Park
- This 10km winding, rugged 6-8 hour hike is one of the best in Canada.
You'll come accross thick forests of Western Hemlock, Douglas Fir and
Sitka Spruce abundent with ferns, mosses and shrubs like salmonberry.
Walk through Aldridge point were petroglyphs are stained into the rock.
This was made into a Provincial heritige site in 1927.
Or make your way over to Aylard farm where ther is a heritige apple orchard
and large open medows full of clover, wild rose and blue eyed grass.
